My Coaching Approach

There are four things you need to know about my coaching approach:

  1. I begin my work with you by evaluating and reinforcing your life/work balance.  Why?  Because it takes time and effort to transition your career in a new direction, and most people don't have 1-2 hours each week to suddenly fill up with something new.  If you are going to execute an effective career change, you will need to make time for it, and that means we will need to assess where/how the required homework will fit into your life - without your losing touch with the people and activities that are most important to you.
  2. I will strongly encourage you and help you to bolster your creative expression in every facet of your life.  Why?  Because it takes creativity to brainstorm new careers and new pathways to those careers, and if you already had access to all you needed you wouldn't need the help of a coach.  Of course I will share my own creativity and expansive knowledge of the labor market, major industries, and career trends with you, but I want you to not have to rely on my expertise for the rest of your working life.
  3. I take a holistic approach to career change.  Why? Because I believe that work is but one part of life - an important part, but not the most important part.  I therefore welcome you to bring non-career questions and concerns to any coaching session.  Let's face it, issues around relationships, communications, organization, and time management, to mention but a few, will arise, so why not welcome them and embrace what they have to teach you, rather than allow them to disrupt your career transition process?
  4. I will aid you in discerning your calling and rediscovering the True You.  Why?  Because career change is actually a spiritual processSpiritual, because work is more than about how much money you make - it's about who you are, what you share of yourself, what contribution you make to the world, and how this contribution changes you in the process of offering it.  Process, because career change takes time and unfolds slowly based on your knowledge of yourself and the world around you - if you pick jobs or careers based on arbitrary factors, you'll experience arbitrary satisfaction and meaning.  If, on the other hand, you dare to select jobs or careers based on soulful factors, you'll experience deep and lasting satisfaction and meaning.

Length of Sessions

Career Coaching sessions are one hour in length and take place by phone.

Duration of Coaching Relationship

Unlike most coaches, I do not believe in locking clients into a coaching contract of three months or more - I believe you can and should stop coaching when it suits you.  Be realistic, though.  Creating a successful career transition for yourself can take weeks or months, so be prepared to commit to the process for that length of time, even if you choose not to access coaching support throughout the entire process.

My Inner ArchaeologyTM process takes an average of 90 days to execute, hence most of my clients work with me for 2-4 months before their next career transition is fully clarified and ready to implement (i.e, launch a job search for the new position).  How long this process take is up to you, not me, because it depends on how consistently you complete your coaching homework after each session, which in turn depends on how much time you have available each week to complete your homework.

On average, you will need 1-2 hours per week to complete the homework I will assign to you in each session.

Cost of Sessions

My fee for one-on-one Career Coaching is $75 per hour for those who begin coaching with me by January 31, 2007.  After that date, my coaching fees will rise to $125 per hour.  All fees are payable by credit/debit card or cash via Paypal.  You are welcome to pay for one or multiple sessions at a time, but all sessions must be paid for in advance.  [Note:  If you are a current client as of January 31, 2007, your coaching fees will not increase.]

One-on One Coaching at Referral Rate

This link is only valid if used with prior permission based on your referral to me for coaching from a current/past client.  It entitles you to pay $65 per coaching session rather than my current coaching rate of $75 per hour.  Please note that as of January 31, 2007, my referral coaching rate will rise to $75 per hour.  [Note:  If you are a current coaching client as of January 31, 2007 and have been referred to me by a current/past client, then your coaching rate will remain $65 per hour.]

Remember that you can purchase one or more sessions at a time and that advanced payment is strongly preferred.

Thank you for your business!
